Senior Citizens National Protest Day 16th August 2013 Chennai activities

Dear Mr. Vyasamoorthy,

At Chennai we have planned a rally and meeting under the aegis of FOSCATAN and TANSECA. The event is to be held in Viswesvaraya Tower Park in Anna Nagar, chennai - 600 040. The affiliated units of FOSCATAN (seven of them in the city) to send their representatives to attend along with their banners. Posters will be put on lamp posts and trees around the park about the event to catch the eye of the general public also. We expect good participation and publicity.

Dr. R. Thilagaraj, HOD, Department of Criminology will be speaking at the meeting on "Crimes against Elders"

Resolutions touching upon the demands being focused as part of the Protest Day this year will be passed and sent to the concerned governments after the meeting.

Given below is the report which has appeared in the neighbourhood weekly Anna Nagar Talk.

Organisations affiliated to the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of Tamil Nadu (FOSCATAN) will be observing Senior Citizens Solidarity Day on Friday the 16th August 2013 as part of a National Programme. The Tamil Nadu Senior Citizens Association one of the affiliates of FOSCATAN will play the lead role in organising the event.

 

In Chennai, the senior citizens will assemble inside the Visveswariah Tower Park in Anna Nagar and move around  in a procession carrying banners and placards highlighting some of their long pending demands such as safety and security for lonely elders,  regulated old age homes, geriatric medical facilities in all government hospitals, 2% more interest on bank deposits, universal pension,  fare concession for bus and rail travel, affordable medical insurance etc.,

 

The procession will culminate in a meeting inside the park to be addressed by leaders of the senior citizens movement. Dr. R. Thilagaraj, HOD, Department  of Criminology, University of Madras  who will be the Chief Guest will give a special  talk on the subject of "Crimes against Elders".

 

All Senior Citizens are welcome.
